Investment vs “Charity”
At CareLink, we invest in women, and future generations
Charitable causes play an important role in the lives of people trying to make the world a better place, and reducing human suffering. Sometimes the most expedient way to help someone in need, is to simply give them what is required at that moment to alleviate their misery. Perhaps they need medicine, or food, or a little money to help them through a difficult time. This is a good thing. A critical component of philanthropy.
At CareLInk, however, our approach is more focused on addressing the root cause of suffering; poverty, lack of access to capital, and injustice. First, we provide enterprising women with business training. Then, we connect them with a support system which includes a community of similarly-situated women, and a good local church. Finally, we invest in them; providing these determined women with a zero-interest Microfinance loan that will enable them to launch the small business of their dreams.
We don’t just give them temporary aid that will help them through a brief period of suffering, we invest in them. And as these women re-pay their loans with some of their business profits, we re-invest those funds into the lives of other women. A powerful and self-sustaining cycle of compassion.
Microfinance works because it is Empowering, Sustainable, and it Pays Forward.
